HE Parks Offers Free Sunscreen in Parks and at Pool

Thanks to the Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) and Pinnacle Dermatology of Hoffman Estates, visitors to several of the Hoffman Estates parks won’t have to worry about the consequences of forgetting their sunscreen when they’re out at the parks, at Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club or at Seascape Family Aquatic Center. That’s because the two organizations have partnered to place sunscreen dispensers at select parks and facilities.

Sunscreen lotion with SPF 30 is recommended by dermatologists to protect skin from sun exposure. Too much exposure to the sun can cause melanoma or skin cancer. In fact, only three sunburns can increase the chances of an individual of being diagnosed with melanoma by 65%.

“Skin cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the United States, but it is also the most preventable,” according to Dr. Paula Lapinski of Pinnacle Dermatology. “Sadly, someone dies from skin cancer every 52 minutes.”

The sunscreen dispensers provide a weather-resistant, all-natural SPF 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen with the wave of a hand, similar to the hand sanitizer dispensers that are popular in public places such as in many of the park district’s facilities.

“We’re really happy to add this extra amenity to our parks and at Seascape, thanks to our sponsor Pinnacle Dermatology,” said HE Parks Executive Director Craig Talsma. “The health and safety of our community are of the utmost importance to us, and the sunscreen dispensers are literally an added layer of protection for our patrons.”

Seascape will be open daily, weather permitting, until August 19. For more information about Seascape visit heparks.org or call 847-885-7500. For more information about the sunscreen stations visit sunstationusa.com and to contact Pinnacle Dermatology visit pinnacleskin.com.
