Our Coyote Mites won the Mites Blue Collar Aurora Borealis Championship series at Big Bear for AAU! Congratulations team!
From Randy Jordan, Assistant Manager of Ice Operations, “Our Coyotes Mite travel team is becoming a major force. After losing a tough game Friday night, our squad came back to dominate the same team in the final Sunday, but due to running into a very hot goalie had to go to the second overtime period before Jacob Borzecki made a great rush and move to score the 3-2 winner, in a game that proved Mite hockey can be well played at an exciting level at full ice where every player has a major contribution. Although we are playing with a larger than usual roster for Mites, Coaches Chesney, Harazin and Somen did a great job of giving every player the ice time where more players than usual have gained a ton by the experience.”
Each year, our Parks Services Division has scheduled “ecological burns” for several of our natural areas throughout our parks. The burns are an effective way of burning away plant life. There are many benefits to this process, including helping to eliminate non-native, invasive plant species, adds nutrients to the soil and stimulates native species. The Park District will continue its Free Mulch offer it started in 2011. Mulch is now available in several locations. The mulch was previously used as “fall material” beneath playground equipment to protect children upon impact of falling. It is replaced each year with a fresh supply as a safety measure. The used mulch is available for free to residents to use in their home gardens and landscaping, while it lasts. Read More »
Concrete work is near completion at Triphahn Center. All work schedules are contingent on the weather.
This year, several of our parks are slated to get new playground equipment, plus we will be improving the surfaces of our walking paths around Fabbrini Park (Highpoint) starting mid May. Read more here.
