The Hoffman Estates Park District is proud to announce the opening of a new, fully inclusive playground at Vogelei Park and Barn, located at 650 West Higgins Road. This opening follows two years of careful planning, demolition, and construction to create a one-of-a-kind recreational space designed for the entire community.
El nuevo parque infantil cubre más de 7,500 pies cuadrados y cuenta con estructuras totalmente inclusivas específicamente dedicadas a niños de 2 a 5 años y de 5 a 12 años. El proyecto fue posible gracias a una subvención de $600,000 para Adquisición y Desarrollo de Espacios Abiertos (OSLAD) del Departamento de Recursos Naturales de Illinois. Esta subvención de contrapartida representa la subvención individual más grande jamás otorgada en la historia del Distrito de Parques de Hoffman Estates.
El parque ofrece una amplia gama de atracciones, que incluyen toboganes coloridos, varios columpios y una zona de juegos acuáticos. Además del equipo de juego, el lugar cuenta con césped artificial y una nueva estructura con sombra y mesas de picnic. El proyecto también se centró en el crecimiento ambiental y educativo, resultando en una mejora de un arboreto de Nivel I a Nivel II, un jardín sensorial, un nuevo invernadero y un aula natural al aire libre. Adyacente al granero se encuentran hoyos de disc golf, un área de bochas y deportes de tiro de rebote, que cuenta con aros de baloncesto a diferentes alturas para adaptarse a diversas necesidades físicas.

We are sincerely grateful to our hard-working staff and the State of Illinois for the OSLAD grant program, both of which were instrumental in making this vision a reality,” said Executive Director Craig Talsma. “I am incredibly proud of our team for the extensive research and dedication they poured into planning such a unique destination.”
The development process began in 2023 with community input meetings and included consultation with the Northwest Special Recreation Association. The historic Vogelei House on the property continues to house the association’s PURSUIT Community Day Program, which serves the needs of individuals with disabilities ages 21 and older.
While the playground is now open for daily use, HEParks will host an official celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 16 at 10:00 am. The event will be held in conjunction with the Kids to Parks event, with festivities continuing until 1:00 pm.
