Eagle Scout To Build Monarch Butterfly Garden

At the July 18 Recreation Committee meeting, Eagle Scout Xavier Vazquez proposed building a Monarch Butterfly garden at Willow Recreation Center as his Eagle Scout project.

The Monarch Butterfly is losing its habitat and numbers of the monarch have decreased significantly over the years. There is a massive effort in the United States to provide habitat for the butterflies along with imperiled bumble bees and other pollinators. Xavier’s project will allow HE Parks to help in the efforts to save the Monarch Butterfly. As part of the project, Xavier will be fundraising and looking for donations to support the project. Improving Health and Wellness For All

The Friends of HE Parks provides a valuable service to our community. The dedicated volunteers who run this organization work tirelessly all year to raise money for scholarships to help families in our community who would otherwise not be able to participate in park district programs. In 2016, the Friends of HE Parks provided $17,778 in funding so that adults could stay healthy at our fitness centers, and so kids could go to camp, take swimming lessons, participate in youth sports, to name just a few important ways the money is used. Hoffman Walks for Team Pride – Sept 16

Join us for our next Hoffman Walks event. This event is one in a series of free walking events, called Hoffman Walks. The next event is Sat. Sept. 16 from 9-10:30 AM at Cannon Crossings Park. On one Saturday each month, HE Parks will host a 1.5-hour walk at a park or facility open to all ages and abilities.
