Improving Health and Wellness For All

The Friends of HE Parks provides a valuable service to our community. The dedicated volunteers who run this organization work tirelessly all year to raise money for scholarships to help families in our community who would otherwise not be able to participate in park district programs. In 2016, the Friends of HE Parks provided $17,778 in funding so that adults could stay healthy at our fitness centers, and so kids could go to camp, take swimming lessons, participate in youth sports, to name just a few important ways the money is used.

In addition, they help us meet the needs of our community by providing fund for special items that the park district couldn’t otherwise provide. A great example is the small passenger bus that we use for our 50+ trips and preschool field trips. This bus was purchased with funds raised through the foundation. They also helped us purchase the jumbo outdoor movie screen that we use for movie nights at Seascape Family Aquatic Center. Most recently, the foundation provided funds to furnish the new 50+ Game Room.

The foundation was started in 1999 by late commissioner Scott R. Triphahn and by Executive Director Dean Bostrom.

“I’m thrilled and honored to lead the charge at the Foundation,” said Troy Triphahn, Chairman of the Friends of HE Parks and Vice President and COO of W-T Engineering, Inc. in Hoffman Estates and son to late commissioner Scott Triphahn. “It is a great opportunity to help a lot of people in the community. Our Trustees are hard-working and passionate and the support from the Park District staff is truly outstanding. I am excited to be able to continue our mission.”
