New Lightning Prediction System

The Hoffman Estates Park District recently installed a new Thorguard lightning detection system to help alert patrons to hazardous weather conditions in many of its parks. The system includes four base stations and several remote horns to cover the community parks and playing fields at Cannon Crossings, South Ridge, Olmstead, Huntington, Pine, Victoria, Highpoint, Cottonwood, Sycamore, Eisenhower and Vogelei parks, as well as the HEPD Community Center and Ice Arena. The park district already had a base station at Poplar Creek Country Club, which also covers Seascape Family Aquatic Center.

Weather Warning Guidelines

One 15-second blast signals a potentially dangerous weather situation approaching. Clear the field immediately and seek appropriate shelter. Return to the field ONLY after the

ALL CLEAR-3 short blasts.

If you see lightning or hear thunder, even if the alarm doesn't sound, leave the field immediately and do not return until 20 minutes after the last occurance.

Hoffman Estates Park District's ball and soccer fields are open for the season. For information on a specific park or field, contact Jason Hickman, division manager of athletics at 847/781-3635.
