New Name Proposed for Highpoint Park

At the November Park Board meeting, a proposal was made to rename Highpoint Park in honor of Joseph L. Fabbrini.  Mr. Fabbrini was a founder of the Hoffman Estates Park District. He served as one of its first commissioners and was its first volunteer Executive Director. Public input on this proposal will be accepted until January 27, 2015 at which time the Park Board of Commissioners will vote on the issue.  Contact Executive Director Dean Bostrom at DBostrom@heparks.org or 847-781-3633 with your input or join us at the board meeting to be held 7 pm, January 27, 2015 at the Triphahn Center at 1685 W. New Digital Marquees Inform Our Community

TC small 300x250 New Digital Marquees Inform Our CommunityHEPD recently completed construction this month of its new signage in front of the Triphahn Community Center and Ice Arena and Vogelei Park, with two additional signs to come on line within the coming weeks at Willow Recreation Center, Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club. The signs replace old marquee signs and are digital, full color displays. HEPD dedicated the signs in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. in the front parking lot of the Triphahn Center.

In addition to promoting the Park District’s programs and events, the signs will also promote Village events including events at the Sears Centre, and provide up–to-the-minute community emergency messages such as Amber Alerts, severe weather warnings, etc. Two of the signs will also include some commercial advertising as a way to offset the cost of the new signs. Congratulations Redhawks Football & Cheer!

The Redhawks Football and Cheer teams competed this month in the Pop Warner National Football Champion Cheer Competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida and they did great! Redhawks Junior Peewee National Champions finished 3rd in the nation and the Junior Peewee/Junior midget cheer are Regional Champions and National Qualifiers. Congratulations!

50+ Active Adult Coordinator Rica Cuff was recognized at the December meeting of the Village of Hoffman Estates Board of Trustees. Rica was named “Great Citizen” for her efforts in volunteerism with the Village as well as her hard work and dedication to HEPD’s 50+Active Adults program.

The 50+ Club is heading to New York City, the “Big Apple” with Diamond Tours. The trip is currently sold out and a waitlist has started. If we get a few more registrations we will add another bus. Diamond Tours will provide a second bus if we have a total of 75 registrants (we’re now at 58, including wait listed registrants).  Read More »

HEPD Earns Certificate of Achievement

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the U.S. and Canada has awarded the Hoffman Estates Park District (HEPD) with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant achievement by the HEPD and its management. In addition, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was granted to Craig Talsma, deputy director/director of finance, as the person primarily responsible for the preparing the award-winning CAFR. Controlled Burns Scheduled This Season

Each Fall, our Parks Services Division has scheduled “ecological burns” for several of our natural areas throughout our parks. The burns are an effective way of burning away plant life. There are many benefits to this process, including helping to eliminate non-native, invasive plant species, adds nutrients to the soil and stimulates native species. To learn more, read on or watch a short video.
