Eagle Scouts Build Archery Range, Donate $600

fullsizerenderCongratulations to Brett Bertok and Niko Soriano, Eagle Scouts, and our Best of Hoffman for September. The two planned the construction, raised funding for the project and coordinated the building of the shed to house the equipment. They had $600 leftover from their fund raising efforts, which they donated to the Friends of HE Parks foundation. The foundation provides scholarship funds to families facing financial hardships, so that their children can attend summer camp, take swimming lessons, participate in youth sports and more. The park district will start programming with the new archery range in the Spring of 2017.

New Smoking Ban Ushers In A Healthier New Year

That’s because beginning January 1, 2017, smoking will be prohibited at all Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) properties, except for Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club. All facilities and parks will be smoke free, including electric cigarettes. This ban was put in place because establishing a smoke-free park system directly supports its mission “to provide healthy and enjoyable activities” in its facilities and parks. HE Parks made the decision because the effects of smoking and secondhand smoke are the cause of many diseases and health conditions leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths annually.
