About the Canine Influenza Virus & Our Dog Parks

There has been a serious outbreak of the Canine Influenza Virus in the Chicago area, with more than 1000 cases reported in Cook County. HEPD wants all dog owners to educate themselves on the virus and to consult with their veterinarians. Highpoint Park to be Renamed Fabbrini Park

At the May 16 event, Plant Your Park, Highpoint Park will be renamed Joseph L. Fabbrini Park.  Mr. Fabbrini was a founder of the Hoffman Estates Park District. He served as one of its first commissioners and was its first volunteer Executive Director. Your Input Requested at Public Meeting


The Hoffman Estates Park District will host a public meeting for the purpose of discussing a new skate park.  The district presently operates a skate park on the north-side of Hoffman Estates at the Willow Recreation Center and we are interested in looking at the feasibility of building another skate park in the southeast section of Hoffman Estates.  No specific location has been identified at this time. Free Mulch Available After May 1

The Park District will continue its Free Mulch offer it started in 2011; however the program has been delayed due to weather conditions. Mulch will be available starting some time after May 1, depending on the weather. The mulch was previously used as “fall material” beneath playground equipment to protect children upon impact of falling. It is replaced each year with a fresh supply as a safety measure. The used mulch is available for free to residents to use in their home gardens and landscaping, while it lasts. Read More »

Park Projects this Season


Concrete work is mostly completed at Willow Recreation Center entrance way, although one apron will remain closed. The parking lot at Triphahn Center is in progress throughout the month of April. All work schedules are contingent on the weather.

This year, several of our parks are slated to get new playground equipment, plus we will be improving the surfaces of our walking paths around Fabbrini Park (Highpoint).  Read more here.

Each year, our Parks Services Division has scheduled “ecological burns” for several of our natural areas throughout our parks. The burns are an effective way of burning away plant life. There are many benefits to this process, including helping to eliminate non-native, invasive plant species, adds nutrients to the soil and stimulates native species. To learn more, read on or watch a short video.
